Two terror associates arrested in J&K’s Ganderbal, arms, ammunition and cash recovered

Srinagar: Two terror associates, including a woman, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, and arms, ammunition and Rs 8.4 lakh in cash were recovered from their possession, police said on Thursday.

In a late-evening operation, Ganderbal police, in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG), intercepted a load carrier near Gundrehman Bridge during naka checking. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the vehicle was thoroughly searched, leading to a major recovery.

Arms, Grenades and Cash Seized

Police recovered one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, four pistol rounds, two hand grenades and Rs 8,40,500 in cash from the accused.

The arrested persons were identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Hajin in Bandipora district, and Shabnum Nazir, a resident of Shalabugh in Ganderbal.

A case under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the arms, money and their possible terror links.

Security Forces Intensify Anti-Terror Drive

Police said security forces are following a revised strategy to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem by targeting not only terrorists but also their associates, overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers.

Authorities are also keeping a close watch on drug smugglers, peddlers and hawala networks, as such illegal activities are believed to generate funds that are used to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
