Am Centuries ago, the prophet Nostradamus predicted that the world would face catastrophic disasters after the end of the twentieth century, but this prediction was dismissed as misleading and unsubstantiated. However, events in the 21st century have brought Nostradamus’s predictions back into the spotlight. The war between Russia and Ukraine has been wreaking havoc for the past three years. Recently, a massive earthquake struck the Philippines, causing massive loss of life and property. The Gaza Strip has been completely reduced to rubble by the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

The war between the US and Iran, which closed the Strait of Hormuz, crippled the economy of half the world. All these events are the devastation foretold in Nostradamus’s prophecies. Venezuela was still recovering from the war when, on Wednesday evening, a series of devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela, bringing with them a wave of devastation. Chaos gripped the entire country. People were seen running frantically for their lives. Losses were heavy, and buildings were reduced to rubble.

At the time of writing, the Venezuelan President’s office reported 164 deaths and over 700 injuries. However, according to the United States Geological Survey, there is a 44 percent chance that the death toll could exceed 10,000. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has declared a state of emergency. Several countries, including India and the US, have offered assistance. America has occupied this country for its oil resources and India is buying oil from here. This blow from nature seems to have revealed its intention to destroy a small nation. In this South American country, people’s lives were shattered within seconds. Many cities were reduced to heaps of rubble. Weeping people were desperately searching for their loved ones. Relief and rescue workers were struggling to remove bodies and injured people from buildings. Ironically, the government had officially advised people to move to safer places due to the possibility of aftershocks. These natural disasters occurring abroad should also alert India.

In our country, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Delhi are earthquake-prone areas. Unexpected earthquakes have the power to wreak havoc across the region and shatter the economy. In the past, we have witnessed earthquakes that caused cracks in the mountains of Uttarakhand, and Many Mountains Began to Leak. Japan is the country most affected by earthquakes. In Japan, the building construction system has been changed to protect against earthquakes. Wooden houses are preferred there, so that even if they are damaged, they can be rebuilt at a lower cost. While such a change cannot be expected in India, the scientific system can certainly be strengthened to provide advance warning about weather and natural disasters, enabling people to make pre-emptive arrangements.
