Chennai: In a shocking incident of broad daylight murder, three people — including two women — have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a young man from Puducherry in central Chennai.
Murder in Public View
The victim, identified as Prakash, was a government contract worker who had travelled to Chennai on business. The incident occurred on 4th Main Road in Ashok Nagar, where Prakash was seated inside a luxury car, reportedly conversing with his girlfriend.
According to police, a four-member gang on two motorcycles intercepted the car, dragged Prakash out, and hacked him to death with machetes before fleeing the scene on Wednesday.
The attack, which happened in full public view, caused panic among local residents, many of whom screamed and ran for safety.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Police personnel from Ashok Nagar station rushed to the scene soon after receiving information. Prakash’s body, found lying in a pool of blood beside his car, was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.
CCTV footage from the area helped investigators track down and arrest three suspects —
-
Dhananchezhiyan (42)
-
Sukanya (37), his wife
-
Gunasundari (27), Sukanya’s friend
All three hail from Vandavasi in Tiruvannamalai district.
A senior police officer said that one more suspect remains absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him.
Personal Dispute Suspected
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sukanya had known Prakash earlier, and a personal dispute is believed to have led to the murder. The couple, Dhananchezhiyan and Sukanya, are employed with the Cuddalore Transport Department.
Police believe the assailants trailed Prakash’s vehicle for some distance before launching the attack.
Tension in the Area
The gruesome daylight killing has sparked tension in Ashok Nagar, with residents expressing concern over the brazenness of the act. Senior police officials have visited the crime scene, and additional security personnel have been deployed to maintain order as the investigation continues.
