Three dilapidated buildings collapsed due to rain in Amritsar

Amritsar: Continuous heavy rainfall has heightened the risk posed by dilapidated structures in Amritsar, with three old three-storey buildings collapsing near Vahia Wala Market in the Majith Mandi area early Tuesday morning. Fortunately, no loss of life or property was reported, as the buildings had been vacant for years.

Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion between 4 AM and 5 AM, only to find the structures reduced to rubble. The buildings, long in disrepair, were known to be in a precarious state, worsened by the ongoing heavy rains.

Police stopped the movement

As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and cordoned off the surrounding area. The police also called the Municipal Corporation team to the spot, who inspected the building and started the process of removing the debris.

Locals say that this building was very old and was in a dilapidated condition for a long time. The Municipal Corporation has already prepared a list of such dilapidated buildings, which are at risk of collapsing anytime due to rain or earthquake.

Threat to old buildings in the city

There is an atmosphere of panic in the area after this incident. People are now worried about other old buildings in their colony. Municipal Corporation officials have assured that the buildings which are in danger will be identified and immediate action will be taken so that such accidents do not happen in future.
