Three women cutting grass killed in hit-and-run case in Rajasthan; LoP condoles deaths

Jaipur: Three women were killed after being run over by a speeding car while clearing weeds along the Jaipur-Bandikui Expressway near Booj village in Jaipur’s Jamwaramgarh area, prompting Rajasthan Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully to express condolences over the deaths.

The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday near pillar number 48.2, when a speeding car travelling from the Bandikui direction struck the three women.

Two women died on the spot, while the third succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Three women killed in expressway accident

The deceased have been identified as Prem Devi Balai, 55, and Manphuli Devi Meena, 60, both residents of Khedawas, and Kaushalya Balai of Nevar village.

Rajasthan LoP Tika Ram Jully described the incident as deeply tragic and distressing. In a condolence message, he expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for their relatives.

20-km traffic jam after accident

The accident brought traffic on the expressway to a standstill for nearly three hours, with vehicle queues stretching for around 20 kilometres on both sides.

Thousands of commuters were stranded and faced severe inconvenience.

BJP Rajasthan state president Madan Rathore and former MLA Gyandev Ahuja, who were travelling from Delhi to Jaipur, were also caught in the traffic jam.

Rathore informed senior officials about the situation, following which police teams from Jamwaramgarh, Kanota and Andhi police stations reached the spot.

Police attempted to facilitate Rathore’s movement through the congestion, but tensions rose after a large crowd of villagers gathered.

Families to receive Rs 17 lakh assistance

The villagers reportedly surrounded the BJP state president and demanded compensation of Rs 20 lakh each for the families of the three deceased women.

Following discussions between the administration and the villagers, an agreement was reached to provide Rs 17 lakh in financial assistance to the next of kin of each deceased woman.

The agreement also includes a contractual job for one member of each affected family. In addition, one dairy booth will be allotted to each family.

The measures were agreed upon after villagers sought financial assistance and other support for the bereaved families, citing their difficult economic circumstances.

Meanwhile, the incident has raised concerns over the safety of workers engaged in clearing vegetation along the expressway.
