Three Women Killed, 15 Injured as Pickup Van Crashes Into Electric Pole in Karnataka’s Yadgir

Yadgir, Karnataka: At least three women labourers were killed and 15 others injured after a pickup vehicle carrying them crashed into an electric pole near Madnal village in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Sunday.

The accident occurred while the labourers were returning home after completing their day’s work. According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then rammed into an electricity pole.

The impact was severe, killing three labourers on the spot.

Three women killed in accident

The deceased have been identified as Bhagyashree, 35, Satyamma, 30, and Honningamma, 18.

The injured labourers were taken to Shahapur hospital for treatment. Further details about their condition were not immediately available.

The labourers had left their homes early in the morning to work as agricultural labourers in fields around Madnal village. They were engaged in removing cotton crop residue and were returning home when the accident occurred.

Police begin investigation

Police from Bhimarayanagudi visited the accident site and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.

Officials are examining the circumstances under which the driver lost control of the pickup vehicle. More details are awaited.

The accident comes amid a series of incidents involving labourers in Karnataka in recent weeks.

Other labourer deaths reported in Karnataka

On August 12, two construction workers were killed and three others injured after a cave-in at an underpass construction site in Bengaluru. Following the incident, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) ordered an independent inquiry.

The cave-in occurred around 10:45 a.m. at the BDA Kanteerava Studio underpass, where PJB Engineers Pvt Ltd, the contractor appointed for the turnkey project, was carrying out construction work.

One of the workers, Parimal Basak, 55, from West Bengal, died at the spot. Another worker, Sunaram Tiria, 37, from Odisha, was rescued and taken to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier, on August 5, three labourers died and two others were injured following a reported chemical leak at a factory in the Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area of Yadgir district.

The deceased in that incident were identified as Vikram and Sanjay, both from Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, and Ganesh, a native of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana. All three were aged between 20 and 25 years.
