Kerala Thrissur Horror Crash: 8 Engineering Students Killed After Car Rams into Parked Lorry

Thrissur: Eight people were killed after the car they were travelling in collided with a parked lorry in Kerala’s Thrissur district late Friday night, police said on Saturday.

The accident took place around 11.40 p.m. on Friday when the car collided with a lorry parked on National Highway 66 at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam.

According to police, all eight deceased were from neighbouring Tamil Nadu and are believed to be students. They were reportedly travelling towards Kodungallur from Guruvayur when the car crashed into the parked lorry.

Car badly mangled in high-impact collision

Soon after the accident, police, fire brigade personnel and local residents reached the spot and began a rescue operation. The impact was so severe that the car was badly mangled, forcing rescuers to cut open the vehicle to pull out those trapped inside.

However, all eight occupants had died by the time they were rescued.

The bodies were subsequently shifted to the mortuary at Thrissur Medical College, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.

Identities of deceased yet to be confirmed

Police have not yet officially released the identities of those killed in the accident.

An unconfirmed media report claimed that the deceased students were from PSNA Engineering College in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. However, the information has not been officially confirmed. Police said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.

The circumstances leading to the collision are also being investigated.

Similar accident reported in Thrissur last month

The latest accident comes weeks after a separate road accident in Kunnamkulam, also in Thrissur district, in which a private bus rammed into multiple vehicles, killing one person and injuring several others.

The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon when the bus reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. It subsequently collided with a car, an autorickshaw and a two-wheeler.

One person was killed and several others were injured, with two of the injured reported to be in serious condition at the time.

The bus eventually came to a halt after crashing through a compound wall and gate into a private property. Police had launched an investigation into the incident.
