5 dead, 10 injured in boiler explosion at Andhra Pradesh pharma unit; Nara Lokesh expresses grief

Tirupati: Five workers were killed and 10 others injured after a boiler exploded at a private pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Sri City, in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district, on Saturday morning, triggering a major rescue and relief operation.

The explosion took place at the TIL Healthcare facility in the Sri City Special Economic Zone in Satyavedu mandal. The blast occurred while workers were on duty, with several night-shift employees reportedly present at the facility.

Death toll rises to five

According to the latest reports, five workers have died in the incident. Two workers were killed at the site, while others later succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

One of the injured workers, identified as Vasu, 36, reportedly died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai. Three other deceased workers have been identified as Gourab Roy, 35, Chinna Mastan, 36, and Ramesh, 40, while the identity of another deceased worker was yet to be confirmed.

Ten other people were injured in the explosion and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Reports said some of the injured were seriously hurt.

Rescue operations launched after blast

The powerful explosion caused significant damage at the facility and triggered a fire. Police, fire and emergency personnel rushed to the site and launched rescue and relief operations.

Rescue teams worked to bring out workers who were trapped or affected by the blast. The exact number of workers present inside the facility at the time of the incident is still being ascertained.

The cause of the boiler explosion has not yet been established. Officials are investigating whether a technical fault or another issue led to the blast.

Nara Lokesh expresses grief

Andhra Pradesh Education and Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh expressed shock and grief over the accident.

Lokesh conveyed his condolences to the families of the workers who died and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured. He also assured that the government would extend all necessary support to the bereaved families.
