644 Tonnes of Cherries to Be Sent from J&K to Mumbai by Train

Jammu & Kashmir: Providing major relief to Jammu and Kashmir orchardists, the Jammu Railway Division has arranged to send 644 tons of cherries to Mumbai in the 2026 season. Northern Railway has booked 28 parcel vans to transport cherries to Bandra Terminus. Each parcel van has a capacity of 23 tons.

Bookings double compared to last year

According to railway officials, bookings this time have increased by almost 100 percent compared to last season. In 2025, 14 parcel vans carrying cherries were sent from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station to Bandra Terminus, a historic initiative.

Loading will be done from Jammu and Katra stations

Of the 28 bookings, 7 parcel vans will depart from Jammu Railway Station and 21 parcel vans will depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station for Bandra Terminus. This cherry shipment season will run from May 25th to July 10th.

Fresh cherries will reach Mumbai in 30 to 33 hours

Railway officials stated that the primary objective of this initiative is to provide Kashmiri orchardists with fast, safe, and reliable transportation, while avoiding the hassles of road transport. Cherries will reach Mumbai via train in 30 to 33 hours, ensuring their freshness and ensuring farmers receive better prices.
