Pathankot: A major road accident took place on the Gurdaspur-Pathankot National Highway near Dhariwal on Friday morning when a speeding tourist bus lost control and overturned. The bus was travelling from Amritsar to Jammu and was carrying mostly college students.
Soon after the bus overturned, three to four vehicles coming from behind also crashed into each other, leading to panic and chaos on the highway. Two college students died on the spot, while five others were seriously injured in the accident.

According to reports, the students studied at Global College in Amritsar. Their exams had recently ended, and they were returning to Jammu to spend their holidays with family members.
Students who survived the accident said they were excited to go home after exams when the bus suddenly lost balance and overturned. One of the deceased students has been identified as 22-year-old Nitin from Jammu, while the identity of the second victim is yet to be confirmed.
After receiving information, local residents and police teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby civil hospital. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

The accident caused a massive traffic jam on the national highway. Police later cleared the road with the help of cranes and restored traffic movement.
ASI Baljit Singh said preliminary investigation suggests overspeeding and loss of control may have caused the accident. Police are also checking whether the bus was moving above the permitted speed limit.
