Youth-ASI Clash Over Challan in Ludhiana, Viral Video

Ludhiana, April 14: A heated argument over a traffic challan (fine) broke out between a young man and a traffic police ASI in Ludhiana. The young man recorded a video of the incident. In the video, the ASI can be heard threatening the youth warning him that if he continued recording, he would “register a case and put him behind bars,” and even threatening to “slap him repeatedly and throw him into the lock-up.”

According to reports, Kamaljit Singh a resident of Bagha Purana in the Moga district stated that he works at a music studio. On Monday April 13, he had traveled to Chaura Bazaar in a Swift car with a friend for some personal work. On their return journey, the traffic police stopped them near Fountain Chowk.

Threatened with a Challan Despite Having Complete Documentation

Kamaljit explained that he informed the police that he was wearing his seatbelt and that all the vehicle’s documents were in order—details which could be verified online. Despite this, the traffic personnel confiscated his driving license and insisted on issuing a challan.

ASI Enraged by the Video Recording

When he asked for the reason behind the challan, the ASI claimed that items were placed on the car’s seat. Objecting to this, Kamaljit Singh argued that placing personal belongings in a private vehicle does not constitute a violation of any traffic rules. During this exchange, Kamaljit Singh began recording the incident on his mobile phone, which caused the ASI to fly into a rage.

Complaint Filed with Senior Traffic Police Officials

Angered by this behavior, Kamaljit and his friend lodged a formal complaint regarding the matter with senior officials of the Traffic Police. They stated that they have forwarded the complete video footage to the officials but have not yet received a response. Meanwhile, as the video continues to go viral on social media, members of the public are also demanding strict disciplinary action against the concerned police officer.

Appropriate Action to be Taken in the Matter

Attempts were made to contact the concerned Traffic ASI regarding this incident; however, he did not answer his phone. Zone In-charge Parminder Singh stated that he, too, had become aware of the incident only through social media. On Tuesday, the entire matter will be placed before senior officials, and appropriate action will be taken.
