Traffic diverted as heavy rain damages Hyderabad-Nagpur highway

Hyderabad: Traffic has been diverted as per advance planning after unprecedented heavy rains in Kamareddy and adjoining districts damaged the national highway NH-44 (Nagpur Highway) to maintain public safety and smooth movement.

Cyberabad police said the diversion has been arranged for passenger safety. Heavy vehicles travelling from Hyderabad to Adilabad will be diverted from Medchal checkpost on NH44 to Karimnagar Highway via Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jagityal, Korutla, Metpally, Armoor and Adilabad.

Light vehicles travelling from Hyderabad to Adilabad will be diverted at Toopran via Medchal, Toopran, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jagityal, Korutla, Metpally, Armoor and Adilabad. Commuters have been requested to follow traffic directions as much as possible and cooperate with police at the diversion points.

Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal said that traffic police and Highway Patrol teams will be present on the ground for guidance. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on NH44 due to heavy rains and flooding on the highway between Kamareddy, Dichpally and Armoor.

Meanwhile, Nirmal police have also informed about diversion for vehicles coming from Adilabad to Hyderabad. Vehicles coming to Hyderabad from Adilabad via Kamareddy will be diverted to Nirmal near Kondapur bridge; they will be sent via Mamada, Khanapur, Metpally, Jagtial and Karimnagar.

Nirmal district Superintendent of Police G. Janaki Sharmila has appealed to commuters for cooperation.

Meanwhile, Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Seethakka held a tele-conference on the flood situation in Kamareddy district and directed officials to conduct on-site inspection in the affected areas. Residents of the affected houses were asked to immediately shift to relief centres, drain out water from submerged houses and prepare a report after assessing the damaged area. Instructions were also given to speed up sanitation work for health safety and prevention of disease. The minister himself will review the situation when the weather improves.
