Tragic accident in Chamba: Car plunges into 250-meter-deep gorge; two youths die

Two young men lost their lives in a tragic road accident late Wednesday night in the Holi Tehsil of Chamba district’s Bharmour subdivision. An Alto car lost control and plunged into a gorge approximately 250 meters deep near Heeling Nallah on the Lamu-Heeling road. The crash was so severe that both occupants died on the spot. A pall of gloom has descended upon the entire area following the incident.

According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Suresh Kumar (48), son of Rangila Ram, and Sanjay Kumar (35), son of Sharma Sarvan. It is reported that the two had gone to Heeling for some urgent work. While returning to their home in Lamu around 11 PM, their car suddenly went out of control near Heeling Nallah and fell into the deep gorge.

Upon receiving news of the accident, nearby villagers rushed to the scene and initiated relief and rescue operations. The rescue effort proved challenging due to the rugged terrain. Later, a police team arrived at the site and, with the help of locals, retrieved both bodies from the gorge. After completing the necessary legal formalities, the police sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

This accident has shattered the happiness of two families. Suresh Kumar is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son, while Sanjay Kumar’s family includes his wife, a son, and a daughter. The families were devastated upon hearing the news. A wave of grief has swept through the region, and locals are shocked by the incident.

The police have initiated the process of handing over the bodies to the families following the post-mortem. An investigation has also been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the accident; the cause remains undetermined at this preliminary stage.
