Five people, including three members of the same family, lost their lives in a tragic road accident late Saturday night as they were returning home following a daughter’s wedding ceremony. The mishap took place on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi four-lane highway near Kusumha Basharatpur, under the Dohrighat police station area, when a high-speed Scorpio hit the divider and subsequently crashed into a trailer moving in the adjacent lane.

Around 2:30 AM on Saturday, as the vehicle reached the area near Kusumha Basharatpur, specifically in front of the Sharda Sahayak Section-32 Canal Colony, the driver reportedly dozed off at the wheel.

The out-of- control Scorpio first struck the road divider and then veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a violent collision with the trailer. The impact was so severe that the front section of the Scorpio was completely mangled, and all the occupants became trapped inside the wreckage.

Upon receiving the information, Circle Officer (CO) Ghosi, Jitendra Singh, along with Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar Tripathi and a police force, rushed to the scene. After approximately two and a half hours of arduous effort involving cutting through the vehicle’s metal frame, the police and a forensic team successfully extricated all five bodies by 5:00 AM. Subsequently, the bodies were sent to the District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

CO Jitendra Singh stated that the families of the deceased have been informed about the accident. Both damaged vehicles involved in the crash have been removed from the road, and traffic flow has been restored. This tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village of the deceased.
