Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Koyal Malik resigns, stirring Bengal politics

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP and actress-turned-politician Koyal Malik resigned from her post on Thursday. According to sources, she met with Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan and submitted her resignation.

Resignation comes amid ongoing changes within the party

Koyal Malik’s resignation comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is experiencing ongoing political changes. A day earlier, senior TMC MLA Madan Mitra had also left the party and joined the rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.

Several prominent leaders have left the TMC

In the past few months, leaders like Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik have also resigned from the Rajya Sabha and Trinamool Congress memberships. These leaders later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP nominates candidates for Rajya Sabha by-elections

The BJP has nominated some of these former TMC leaders for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections in West Bengal. This decision is also in the news because the BJP had previously stated that it would not admit Trinamool Congress leaders into the party.
