Major crackdown on gold smuggling in Tripura: Assam Rifles and DRI seize ₹21.87 crore

Agartala: In a major crackdown against gold smuggling and financial crimes, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), have seized gold and unaccounted Indian currency worth ₹21.87 crore in Tripura.

According to a defense spokesperson, based on a tip-off, raids were conducted in the Shanti Para area of ​​the capital and Dhaleswar on the outskirts of the city, resulting in the arrests of Kunal Jaiswal, Ajay Naha, and Rakesh Das.

Gold biscuits and cash handed over to DRI

Officials stated that approximately 14 kilograms of gold biscuits (worth approximately ₹19 crore) and ₹2.87 crore in cash were recovered during the operation.

“This successful seizure was made by the Assam Rifles and DRI based on specific intelligence,” the spokesperson said.
The seized gold and cash have been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and legal action.

Counterfeit goods smuggling also cracked down, cigarettes worth ₹3.4 million seized

In a separate operation, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, Silchar (Assam), launched a crackdown against counterfeit goods smuggling. Fake cigarettes worth ₹3.4 million were recovered from a warehouse.

According to officials, the consignment was being transported through Silchar for supply to other states. The statement said that the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department are continuously carrying out operations to break the network of counterfeit products in the region and this seizure is a significant achievement in this direction.
