Triumph of the Punjab Education Revolution: 59 Government School Students Clear JEE Advanced

The impact of the transformations taking place in Punjab’s education sector is now resonating at the national level. Marking a significant milestone for the ‘Punjab Education Revolution’ initiative, 59 students from the state’s government schools have successfully cleared JEE Advanced the country’s most prestigious and challenging engineering entrance examination.

This figure represents a 34 percent increase compared to the 44 qualifiers from the previous year, serving as a testament to the growing quality of and confidence in the government education system. Congratulating the students, parents, and teachers on this achievement, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that this success is the result of the historic changes and improved academic environment within Punjab’s government schools. Notably, Patiala district led the state in the number of JEE qualifiers.

Sharing district-wise data, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains revealed that Patiala district topped the list with 11 qualifiers, followed by Sangrur in second place with 7 students. Six students each were selected from Ludhiana, Ferozepur, and SAS Nagar. Additionally, students successfully clearing JEE Advanced included 5 from Fatehgarh Sahib, 4 each from Amritsar and Jalandhar, 3 each from Bathinda and Gurdaspur, 2 from Fazilka, and 1 each from Rupnagar and Hoshiarpur.

Describing this achievement as a major milestone in the government school education sector, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains remarked that this was not a sudden miracle; rather, the state has progressed from 44 qualifiers to 59 within a year. He stated that even a child from a village, if determined, can overcome obstacles and clear India’s toughest exam without spending lakhs of rupees on coaching. This is the reality of the Punjab Education Revolution, which is now coming to fruition in the state. Our students are clearing JEE Advanced by studying in government schools, not in expensive coaching centers. This is the true revolution.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated, “This result dispels the myth that only students from major private coaching hubs make it to the IITs. The true objective of Punjab’s ‘Education Revolution’ is to transform government schools into institutions that foster high-level engineering skills through foundational interventions and the expert guidance of qualified teachers. Now, every child in Punjab can dream big and crack the country’s toughest examinations.”

Attributing this achievement to systemic reforms, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains remarked that this success is the outcome of targeted initiatives under the ‘Punjab Education Revolution’ led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government. This initiative provides free, high-quality coaching, improved infrastructure, and proper guidance to government school students preparing for JEE and NEET.

He remarked that the success of Punjab’s government school students in JEE Advanced is not merely the result of an exam, but proof of how educational opportunities provided at the right time can transform lives.

Highlighting the story of Priya Bhardwaj from the School of Eminence in Bhagpur Sataur, Hoshiarpur, the Education Minister shared that after her father’s passing, her single mother raised her and supported the family by working at a private company on an annual income of just ₹1.44 lakh. Despite financial hardships, Priya remained serious and committed to her studies and cleared the JEE Advanced exam with the help of the Punjab government’s coaching and guidance. She now aspires to become an engineer and fulfill her late father’s dream.

The successful students also include Prabhjot Singh from the School of Eminence in Mullanpur, SAS Nagar; his father is a laborer, and his mother is a homemaker. Hailing from an economically disadvantaged family, Prabhjot received academic support from the Punjab government as well as constant encouragement from his teachers and principal. He aspires to become an engineer and elevate his family’s standard of living.

Similarly, Harsh Madhav from the School of Eminence, Amloh (Fatehgarh Sahib), shared that the free coaching, mock tests, and guidance provided by the Punjab government aided his preparation for the JEE Advanced exam. His father earns ₹18,000 per month at a private company, and the family could not afford private coaching. He now aims to secure admission to IIT Bombay and build a better future for his family.
