Iran Hits Back with ‘Finger on the Trigger’ Warning as Trump Vows to ‘Hit Them Hard Tonight’; Truce Called Off

Washington/Tehran: Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply after US President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with Tehran “over” and warned that American forces would “hit them hard tonight,” prompting Iran to respond that its military has its “finger on the trigger” and is prepared to retaliate against any fresh attack.

Trump made the remarks while speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, accusing Iran of violating the truce and saying the US had already carried out heavy strikes overnight. He indicated that further military action could follow within hours if Tehran continued what Washington described as hostile actions in the Gulf region.

    Iran warns of retaliation

Iranian officials rejected Trump’s claims and warned that the country’s armed forces remain on high alert. A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader said the US decision to abandon the truce had once again pushed the region towards conflict, adding that Iran’s forces have their “finger on the trigger” and are ready to respond to any further aggression.

The renewed exchange of threats has heightened concerns over a wider regional conflict, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route where recent attacks on commercial vessels have further intensified tensions.

    Truce collapses amid fresh hostilities

The ceasefire, brokered to create space for diplomatic negotiations, appeared to unravel after both sides accused each other of violating its terms. The US said Iranian attacks on shipping and military interests prompted fresh American strikes, while Tehran blamed Washington for reigniting the conflict.

The collapse of the truce has cast fresh uncertainty over efforts to revive negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security issues. Trump maintained that the US would continue to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while Iranian leaders insisted they would defend the country’s sovereignty against any military action.

    Global concern over escalating crisis

The latest escalation has triggered international concern over the possibility of a prolonged military confrontation in the Middle East. Analysts warn that continued hostilities could disrupt global energy supplies, push oil prices higher and further destabilise the region if diplomatic efforts fail to resume.
