Trump announces 25% tariff on India; Punjab Congress leader Raja Warring criticizes PM Modi’s ‘Friendship’ with Trump

Jalandhar, July 31: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced to impose 25% tariff on India from August 1. On this, Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sharing a post related to Donald Trump’s tariff announcement, he wrote, “What the enemy would not do, a friend has done it.”

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring wrote on his social media account X that “What an enemy would not do, a friend has done that. Modi ji’s ‘friend’ Trump imposed 25% tax and penalty on India, put it in the dock for buying oil and weapons from Russia, and Modi ji just kept being happy by saying ‘Donald Trump is my friend’.” The country is suffering due to this pretense of friendship.

Trump has given this argument for imposing tariffs

India is a friend of America, but in the last few years America has done less trade with it because its tariffs are very high. In fact, many of India’s policies create difficulties for American companies in doing business.

India still buys most of its weapons from Russia. Not only this, India, along with China, also buys large quantities of oil and gas from Russia, while the whole world wants Russia to stop violence in Ukraine.

Due to all these reasons, America has now decided that it will impose a 25% tariff on goods coming from India from August 1. Apart from this, a penalty will also be imposed. All is not well between the two countries.
