Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday said Iran has a “last chance” to reach an agreement with Washington, even as Tehran denied that any negotiations are currently underway. Trump also warned of “decapitation” if diplomatic efforts fail, while the US military is reportedly reviewing new ways to increase pressure on the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the United States agreed to continue negotiations at the request of regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Despite Iran’s Foreign Ministry denying that talks are taking place, Trump maintained that discussions remain active.

“We are talking right now. This is a last chance for them to sign a good document. I want to give them every last chance before decapitation,” Trump said.

CENTCOM Reviews New Pressure Strategies Against Iran

According to a CNN report, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has asked military analysts to submit “new creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran.” The request was circulated through an internal email and reflects Washington’s efforts to reassess its strategy as negotiations remain uncertain.

A source familiar with the matter told CNN that CENTCOM is evaluating all available military and strategic options.

CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Timothy Hawkins said the command has a long-standing tradition of encouraging innovative thinking and confirmed that senior leadership regularly seeks ideas from personnel across all ranks to improve operational planning.

Talks Focus on Strait of Hormuz and Nuclear Programme

Trump said ongoing discussions are focused on two major issues — reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and addressing Iran’s nuclear programme.

He expressed confidence that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could resume quickly if an agreement is reached, while acknowledging that dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities would take longer.

The United States and Iran have remained in conflict since February 28, when the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets. Although diplomatic efforts have periodically reduced tensions, Iran continues to retain enriched uranium stockpiles and missile and drone capabilities, keeping regional security concerns high.

Cargo Vessel Hit in Strait of Hormuz

In another sign of continuing instability, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said early Tuesday that an unidentified cargo vessel was struck by an “unknown projectile” while passing through the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman.

The British maritime security agency said an investigation is underway but did not identify the vessel or confirm whether there were any casualties or damage.

The latest developments underscore the fragile security situation in the Middle East as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military preparedness.
