Turkey: Deadly School Shooting kills 4, 20 Injured; Second incident in two days

A tragic shooting occurred on Wednesday at Ayser Çalık Secondary School in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. According to local authorities, an 8th-grade student opened fire inside the school using weapons belonging to his father. Reportedly, he had concealed the weapon used in a backpack. The attacker also died in the incident.

Reports said that 4 have been killed, including three students and one teacher, whereas around 20 people were injured.

Emergency medical teams and ambulances rushed to the scene immediately. Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway. The Governor of Kahramanmaraş, Mukerrem Unluer, issued a statement confirming the response.

Second incident of shooting 

This marks the second school shooting in Turkey within two days. Yesterday, a former student (reported as 17–19 years old) opened fire with a shotgun at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province. One died while 16 people were injured, including 10 students, 4 teachers, 1 police officer, and 1 canteen worker.

The attacker later died by suicide after being cornered by police. That incident took place around 9:30 AM local time and shocked the southeastern region of the country.

Turkish authorities have not yet released further details on the motive in either case. Both incidents have raised serious concerns about school safety and access to firearms. The situation remains under active investigation.
