    Turkey school shooting: 16 injured as ex-student opens fire, dies by suicide

    New Delhi: A former student opened fire at a high school in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday, injuring at least 16 people. The attacker shot himself and committed suicide after the incident, officials said.

    Indiscriminate firing with a shotgun, followed by suicide

    An 18-year-old attacker reportedly opened fire with a shotgun at a vocational high school in Siverek (Sanliurfa Province). He hid inside the school after the incident and later shot himself, Governor Hasan Sildak said.

    16 people injured, including students and teachers

    The injured include 10 students, four teachers, a canteen employee, and a policeman. Most of the injured were treated at local hospitals, while five seriously injured were transferred to a larger hospital in the provincial capital.

    Motive for attack unknown, investigation ongoing

    According to officials, the motive behind the attack is still unclear. Police and special operations teams arrived at the scene, evacuated the students safely, and cornered the attacker.

    The government has launched a thorough investigation into the incident and stated that such incidents are extremely rare in Turkey.
