Twinkle Khanna Jokes—Akshay Kumar’s “Mat Kar” Suggestion Contributes to Her Writing

Mumbai: Author Twinkle Khanna revealed that superstar husband Akshay Kumar’s “biggest contribution” to her writing journey is simply saying “Mat Kar.”

On receiving suggestions from Akshay, Twinkle said, “This morning, I was discussing topics for my next column, and he said, ‘Don’t… Don’t get into that issue.’ ‘Don’t’ is his biggest contribution to my writing.”

Her Thoughts on Writing

Twinkle, who has written books like Mrs. Funnybones, Mrs. Funnybones Returns, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, Pyjamas Are Forgiving, and Welcome to Paradise, spoke about her perspective on World Book Day.

“My job is to inspire people to think about things that are obvious, but our thinking prevents us from seeing them. This can make people uncomfortable, but I try to understand these layers and write about them.”

The Impact of Books and Cinema

According to her, what she has contributed to these mediums is most important.

“Books have always been a part of my life, and so has cinema. My experiences as a young actress have also influenced my thinking, especially in understanding the inequalities between men and women.”

Family and Reading Habits

Twinkle believes she is drawn to the world of books because she loves language and poetry.

“This probably comes from my father (veteran actor Rajesh Khanna). He explained the importance of language in a different way when I was a child.”

“I grew up in a family where reading was a habit. My sister (Rinkle Khanna) reads even more than I do.”

Old Memories and Favorite Books

She said that at the age of 20, she read more than she does now.

If she met her 20-year-old self, she would say, “Keep doing what you’re doing and finish the book you started at 18.”

“I tried to write that book three times but haven’t finished it yet. Maybe it’s very close to me.”

Regarding her favorite books, she said, “I love A Man Called Ove. I’ve read The God of Small Things many times and still do.”

“I also like authors like Kiran Desai, Haruki Murakami, Octavia E. Butler, Ursula Le Guin, Jhumpa Lahiri, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and PG Wodehouse.”
