Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Files 636-Page Chargesheet, Names Giribala Singh And Son As Accused

Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a 636-page chargesheet in the case related to the death of former model and actress Twisha Sharma, naming retired judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, as accused.

Both accused are currently in judicial custody and have sought bail from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

CBI charges Giribala, son with dowry death

According to sources, the CBI has invoked charges relating to dowry death, cruelty and demand for dowry against Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh.

The chargesheet has been filed under sections 80(2), 85, 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The agency’s 636-page chargesheet follows an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death. Investigators examined various aspects of the case, including forensic evidence, digital material and other evidence before filing the chargesheet.

Twisha found dead at Bhopal home

Twisha Sharma, 33, a former model and actress who had earlier won the Miss Pune title, was from Greater Noida. She married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025.

On the night of May 12, Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills, also referred to as Bagmugalia, area of Bhopal.

Her husband told authorities that she had hanged herself at around 10:20 p.m. She was subsequently taken to AIIMS Bhopal, where she was declared brought dead.

The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging by ligature. It also recorded multiple ante-mortem injuries, including contusions on the arm, finger and head.

Family alleged dowry harassment

Twisha’s family alleged prolonged dowry-related harassment, mental and physical cruelty and pressure connected to her pregnancy, which they said was discovered around April 2026.

The family referred to WhatsApp conversations in which Twisha allegedly expressed distress and asked to be taken away from Bhopal. They also alleged that she reported her husband shouting at her shortly before a call was disconnected on the evening of her death.

Her family also raised questions about the handling of her body and possible evidence-related issues.

An FIR was initially registered against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under provisions relating to dowry death, cruelty and common intention, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Supreme Court directed CBI probe

The Madhya Pradesh government recommended a CBI investigation into the case, following which the Supreme Court directed the central agency to take over the probe.

The CBI subsequently re-registered the case and arrested both accused. Samarth Singh was arrested first, while Giribala Singh was arrested after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed her anticipatory bail.

The agency has conducted scene recreation, forensic examination and digital analysis as part of its investigation.

Both accused have maintained that Twisha died by suicide and have denied allegations of dowry demands. They have also disputed certain claims made by the CBI, including those relating to voice samples, while the defence has pointed to other factors, including alleged personal distress.

Both Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh remain in judicial custody. A special CBI court had directed that the chargesheet be filed by August 17.
