Two Dead, 20 Injured in Boiler Blast at Gujarat Pharma Factory

Bharuch, Gujarat: At least two workers were killed and 20 others injured after a boiler exploded and triggered a major fire at a pharmaceutical factory in Gujarat’s Bharuch district in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.

Massive Explosion in Saykha GIDC Area

The incident occurred around 2.30 a.m. at a factory located in the Saykha GIDC industrial area, said Bharuch District Collector Gaurang Makwana.

“A powerful boiler explosion inside the factory triggered a massive fire,” Makwana said, adding that the blaze was later brought under control after hours of firefighting efforts.

Factory Structure Collapses, Two Workers Trapped

The intensity of the blast was so severe that the factory structure collapsed. “While the majority of workers managed to escape, two of them got trapped and died. Their bodies were recovered from the rubble after the fire was doused. Nearly 20 workers escaped with minor injuries,” Makwana added.

    Search Operations and Investigation Underway

Teams from the fire brigade, police, and forensic departments are thoroughly inspecting the site, as some workers have claimed that one person may still be missing and possibly trapped under debris, the Collector said.

Officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) have also reached the site to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.

They are verifying whether the factory possessed all the required licences and safety permissions, he added.
