Amritsar: Taking action against drug trafficking in Amritsar, the Gharinda police station arrested two suspects. Police recovered 1 kg 147 grams of heroin from their possession. A case has been registered against both of them under the NDPS Act and an investigation has been initiated.
Both accused arrested during a blockade
According to police, the Gharinda police station team was patrolling near T-Point Attari on Sunday. Police received information that Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa, a resident of Nowshera Dhala, and Amandeep Singh, a resident of Dhodiwind, currently living in Attari, were walking towards the Defence Canal to supply heroin.
According to the information, police set up a blockade at the scene. Shortly after, the two suspects arrived and were apprehended by the police team. The operation was carried out in the presence of DSP Yadwinder Singh of Attari Sub-Division.
Search Reveals 1.147 Kilograms of Heroin
Police searched both accused, recovering a total of 1 kilogram 147 grams of heroin. Both were subsequently arrested. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 21-C, 29, and 61-85 of the NDPS Act.
Investigation into the Smuggling Network Continues
According to police officials, ASI Lakha Singh is investigating the case. Both accused are being questioned about where they obtained the heroin and who it was intended to be delivered to. Police are now gathering information about other individuals involved in the case and the entire smuggling network.
