Two Gangsters Injured in Amritsar Police Encounter

Amritsar: Two criminals were seriously injured in a shootout between Amritsar Rural Police and criminals on Thursday afternoon. Both were shot in the legs and have been hospitalized for treatment.

The suspects are reportedly members of the Jeevan Fauji gang, a gangster based abroad. They had recently fired at Dr. Kulwinder Singh Bhangu of Bhangu Hospital in Ramdas.

SSP Rural Maninder Singh, who arrived at the scene, said that miscreants had opened fire indiscriminately on a doctor in the village of Sudhar in the Ajnala area yesterday. The doctor was seriously injured and hospitalized.

Police launched a manhunt for the accused, identified as Sandeep Singh and Hari Kumar, residents of Kapurthala.

Within 24 hours of the incident, police arrested Jagga, the suspect who supplied the bike and weapons to the accused.

He revealed the names of Sandeep Singh and Hari Kumar. Acting on information, the Ramdas police station in-charge learned that both accused had been spotted near the Raiya Canal.

    Shootout Near Raiya Canal
Police reached the area and cordoned it off. On spotting the police, the accused opened fire to protect themselves, firing around four rounds, one of which grazed the shoulder of a police officer.

The police retaliated, injuring both suspects in the legs before taking them into custody. They were immediately shifted to the hospital. A pistol was recovered from their possession.

    Gangster Link and Police Warning
Preliminary investigation revealed that the attack on Dr. Bhangu was carried out at the behest of notorious gangster Jeevan Fauji, reportedly due to a personal grudge. His role is now under investigation.

SSP Amritsar Rural Amarinder Singh said the police acted with utmost caution to avoid civilian casualties. He warned that firing at police is a serious crime and assured that all involved would face the harshest punishment. He added that the crackdown on gangsters will continue until Punjab is made crime-free.
