Tragedy Averted as Two grenades recovered on Rajouri-Jammu Highway, Defused by Army

Panic ensued on the Rajouri-Jammu National Highway near Sunderbani Degree College. Upon receiving information regarding a suspicious object, security forces rushed to the scene, and during the subsequent search, two grenades were recovered.

Immediately after receiving the report of the suspicious object, a joint team comprising the Army and personnel from the Sunderbani Police Station cordoned off the area. As a precautionary measure, vehicular traffic on the road was halted. For security reasons, the highway remained closed for approximately one and a half hours. This resulted in long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road.

A specialized Bomb Disposal Squad was summoned to the site. Exercising extreme caution, the squad safely defused both grenades. According to the police, while the grenades themselves were old, they had been placed inside a drain tied together with a box in such a manner that they appeared to be a massive explosive device.

Consequently, the police and the Army were compelled to exercise great caution and suspend traffic operations. During this period, an intensive search operation was also conducted across the entire region to rule out the possibility of any other suspicious objects or potential threats.

According to the police, a major tragedy was averted due to the timely recovery of the grenades. Throughout the incident, Army and Police personnel remained constantly vigilant and maintained full control over the situation. Traffic on the highway was restored after the grenades had been successfully defused. Currently, security agencies are investigating the matter and attempting to ascertain how the grenades ended up at that location.
