Two Killed, Over 15 Injured in Bus-Truck Collision on NH-48 Near Jaipur

Jaipur: Two died and more than 15 were injured in the terrible road accident that took place on National Highway 48 (Delhi- Jaipur) late on Wednesday night, authorities said on Thursday.

Accident on Bridge Near BDM Hospital

The incident took place on a bridge near the BDM Hospital Kotputli when a private bus traveling from Makrana to Haridwar collided with a stationary trailer. The steel rods on the trailer were thrown through the front of the bus and killed a driver and a female passenger at the spot.

The impact threw the front of the bus into an utter confusion and created a panic among the passengers.

Dark Conditions and Negligence Suspected

The bus was carrying about 22 passengers and was on its way to Haridwar when it hit a truck carrying steel rods on a bridge near BDM Hospital at around midnight. The area was dark and the truck was parked without any warning lights or signs.

The driver of the bus may have missed the truck parked on the road and lost control of the vehicle, as it was going at speed. The truck was hit at the rear.

Fatal Impact and Rescue Efforts

The protruding steel rod’s tore through the driver’s cabin and penetrated deep into the bus. The driver Chandramohan (55) from Ladoli village in Nagaur and a female passenger Bichhu Devi, died at the spot. About 16 were injured.

Local residents rushed into the scene when they heard the crash and the cries for help and rescued the trapped passengers. They could rescue many who were trapped inside the wreckage as the front of the bus was destroyed badly. Police personnel from Kotputli reached the scene a few minutes after they were alerted.

Injured Treated, Traffic Restored

The injured were rushed to the Government BDM Hospital where they were given first aid and later were discharged.

Traffic on the highway was temporarily disrupted but was restored after authorities cleared the damaged vehicles.

Omprakash, the bus’s second driver who survived the crash, stated that the trailer was parked unattended in the dark without any warning indicators. The trailer driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Kotputli SHO Rajesh Sharma confirmed that traffic has since been normalised and said further action will be taken once a formal complaint is filed.
