New Delhi: A National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Visakhapatnam has sentenced two additional convicts in the Pakistan-linked Navy espionage case.

Ashok Kumar from Jhunjhunu and Vikas Kumar from Alwar have each been handed simple imprisonment of five years and eleven months under Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act.

They will face an extra one-year term if they fail to pay the ₹5,000 fine imposed by the court.

Arrests and Chargesheet History

Both men were arrested in December 2019—Ashok Kumar in Mumbai and Vikas Kumar in Karwar. The NIA filed its chargesheet against 14 accused in June 2020, followed by a supplementary chargesheet against another individual in March 2021.

Of the 15 people arrested in connection with the case, eight have now been convicted, while trials for the remaining accused continue.

Case Involves Spying on Key Naval Installations

The case concerns espionage activities targeting critical Indian Navy establishments, allegedly conducted by foreign agents.

The NIA took over the investigation from the Counter Intelligence Police Station in Vijayawada in December 2019 and continues to probe the broader conspiracy intended to threaten national security.

Earlier on November 7, two other accused—Kalavalapalli Konda Babu from Visakhapatnam and Aviansh Somal from Himachal Pradesh—were sentenced to five years and ten months of simple imprisonment under the same legal provisions, along with a similar fine.
