Punjab, Ludhiana: Two jawans from Punjab were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Akhal forest of Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. 26-year-old Sepoy Harminder Singh of village Badinpur in Fatehgarh Sahib and 28-year-old Lance Naik Pritpal Singh of village Manupur in Khanna sacrificed their lives for the country.
This news, which came just before Raksha Bandhan, has created an atmosphere of mourning in both the families. Pritpal Singh had been married for only 11 months. His wife was expecting a festive celebration at home on Rakhi. Meanwhile, Harminder Singh’s mother and sisters were waiting for his safe return.
Ninth day of Operation Akhal
Operation Akhal has been going on since August 1 and Saturday was its ninth day. On August 2, two terrorists were confirmed killed in this operation. One of them was identified as Haris Nazir Dar, a C-category terrorist from Pulwama.
This terrorist was included in the list of 14 local terrorists. The names of these terrorists were released by the intelligence agencies after the Pahalgam attack on 26 April.
Two soldiers died
So far 9 soldiers have been injured in this operation. Four of them were injured on Friday. Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh died during treatment on Saturday morning. There is a possibility of terrorists still hiding in the forest. Firing is continuing from both sides.
Operation Akhal is being carried out by a joint team of Special Operations Group, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF. Army officers say that this operation will not end until the terrorists are completely eliminated.
