Two Terror Operatives Arrested in Amritsar, RPG Recovered

Chandigarh: In an intelligence-based operation, the Amritsar Rural Police, in coordination with central agencies, arrested two operatives of a terror module and recovered a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with its launcher, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

Arrests and Seizures

The accused have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh, alias Mehak, a resident of Wadali, Amritsar, and Aditya, alias Adhi, from Bhaga Chhina village, Amritsar.

Police also seized the motorcycle they were riding at the time of arrest.

Cross-Border Links Revealed

According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were in contact with a Pakistan ISI operative, who reportedly sent the RPG consignment across the border via drone for Harpreet Singh, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail.

“The RPG was intended for a targeted terror attack,” the DGP added, noting that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire terror network.

Operational Details

SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh said the arrests were made following intelligence inputs about the retrieval of an RPG-22 Netto anti-tank rocket launcher by the accused under Harpreet’s directions. Police apprehended the suspects while they were en route to deliver the consignment.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the intended recipients, and Harpreet alias Vicky will be brought from Ferozepur Jail on a production warrant for further questioning.

FIR Registered

A First Information Report (FIR) No. 331 dated Oct 21 has been registered under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Gharinda Police Station, Amritsar Rural.
