Two Youths Die After Falling into Sewage Tank in Faridabad, Toxic Gases Prove Fatal

Faridabad: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning at the Municipal Corporation’s government sewage treatment plant in Jeevan Nagar Part-1, Faridabad. Two young men working at the plant died after falling into a tank. The incident reportedly took place around 6:00 AM. Chaos ensued following the accident, and police and fire brigade teams were summoned to the scene.

Plant operator Shivam Kumar stated that the deceased, Akash and Aman, had been working at the plant for quite some time; Akash had been employed there for about three years and Aman for around a year and a half. Both were approximately 26 years old and unmarried. According to Shivam, a call was received from the contractor in the morning regarding the installation of a chain for tank cleaning, after which Akash and Aman arrived at the site to carry out the work.

Loss of balance due to toxic gas fumes

It was reported that Akash was descending into the tank wearing a safety belt. During the descent, he lost his balance due to toxic gas emanating from the tank. He began to be pulled downwards, and his safety belt snapped, causing him to fall directly into the tank. Seeing his colleague in distress, Aman immediately climbed down to rescue him, but his foot slipped, and he too fell into the tank

Shivam mentioned that during the accident, a third employee, Vipin, also began descending with a safety belt to rescue the two men. However, he too started feeling the effects of the gas rising from the tank and was on the verge of falling. Other employees present at the site managed to pull him up in time, saving his life.

Upon receiving information about the accident, police and fire brigade teams arrived at the site. ASI Sunil Kumar from Mujesar Police Station stated that the police received information about the incident around 6:30 AM. Preliminary information suggests that a broken safety belt and the presence of toxic gas inside the tank were the primary causes of the accident.
