Two companies are set to launch helicopter taxi services in Himachal Pradesh. Heritage Aviation and Pawan Hans Limited have begun preparations for this. Heritage Aviation will operate services from Sanjauli Heliport in Shimla to Bhuntar and Rekong Peo, while Pawan Hans Limited will operate on the Chandigarh-Shimla-Manali and Shimla-Rekong Peo routes.
Services under UDAN
These services are being launched under the UDAN scheme (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik – Let the Common Citizen Fly). The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation had issued tenders for this. The central government will bear 80 percent of the operating costs of the helicopter taxi service, and the state government will bear the remaining 20 percent.
Heritage Aviation will operate flights from Shimla to Kinnaur seven days a week, and Pawan Hans Limited will operate three days a week. Heritage Aviation will provide services on the Shimla-Bhuntar and Shimla-Rekong Peo routes, while Pawan Hans will operate on the Chandigarh-Shimla-Manali and Shimla-Rekong Peo routes.
Check fare
There will be two daily flights from Shimla to Bhuntar (fare Rs. 3500 per person), and one daily flight from Shimla to Rekong Peo (fare Rs. 4000). Pawan Hans Limited will provide services on the Chandigarh-Shimla-Manali and Shimla-Rekong Peo routes three days a week.
The company has not yet finalized the fares. Heritage Aviation has completed all formalities for starting services from Shimla to Rekong Peo and Bhuntar, while Pawan Hans Limited’s formalities are in the final stages.
Preparations underway for innauguration
The formal inauguration of Heritage Aviation’s air services from Shimla to Kinnaur will take place after the Chief Minister’s office confirms a date. Preparations are underway to hold the event at Sanjauli Heliport, but the Chief Minister’s office has not yet confirmed a date for January 14th.
