New Delhi: Madhesh Ravichandran, a resident of Tamil Nadu, India, who worked at a KFC outlet in London, has been awarded £66,800 (approximately ₹7 million) in compensation for racial discrimination and wrongful dismissal. The tribunal hearing the case ruled in his favor.
Manager said – “This is my slave”
According to reports, Ravichandran started working at KFC in West Wickham, London, in January 2023. He alleged that his manager, Kajan Theventhiran, made racist remarks and called him a “slave.”
The tribunal was told that the manager prioritized Sri Lankan Tamil staff and forced Ravichandran to do extra work.
He was also denied annual leave within just two months.
Following this, Ravichandran quit his job and filed a complaint, but his complaint was not properly investigated.
Racial harassment proven, KFC operator directed to implement training
Tribunal Judge Paul Abbott found that:
Ravichandran faced racial discrimination and harassment
✔ He was treated based on his ethnic background
✔ He was also denied leave on racial grounds
✔ He was mentally “humiliated and injured”
Finding Ravichandran’s testimony valid, the court ordered him to receive compensation of 66,800 pounds.
Furthermore, the judge also directed that all employees of Nexus Foods Limited (KFC franchise operator) be given discrimination training to prevent such incidents from happening again.
