Five of Family Killed After Car Crashes Into Truck on NH-43 in MP’s Umaria

Umaria: Five members of a family, including three women, a child and a man, were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a truck on National Highway-43 in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district during the early hours of Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. near Bharaula village in the Siddha Baba area under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station.

According to police, the victims were residents of Leela village in neighbouring Anuppur district and were travelling to Chitrakoot when their car allegedly went out of control and rammed into the rear of a truck moving ahead on the highway.

Car Mangled in High-Impact Collision

The collision was so severe that the car was completely crushed, trapping one occupant inside the wreckage. Police personnel and a 108 ambulance team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Rescue teams had to cut open the mangled vehicle to extricate the trapped victim. He was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Another injured occupant later succumbed to injuries during treatment, while the remaining three victims died on the spot.

Investigation Underway

Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Sharma said all five victims belonged to the same family.

“The family was travelling to Chitrakoot when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway,” he said.

Preliminary findings suggest that the speeding car hit the truck from behind. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash. Efforts are also underway to trace the truck driver and gather additional evidence from the accident site.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal formalities.
