UN chief mourns lives lost in India-Pakistan Floods, Offers support to nations

New Delhi/Islamabad, August 18: The recent severe floods in India and Pakistan have caused massive devastation, in which hundreds of people have died and many are still missing. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep condolences over this natural disaster.

In an official statement issued by the United Nations, the Secretary-General said, “I express my deepest condolences to the people who have lost their lives in the recent flood tragedy in India and Pakistan. I express my condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with all the affected people.”

The statement also said that the UN country teams are fully prepared to provide necessary assistance to the governments of both the countries.

It is worth noting that in the last few days, heavy rains in many parts of South Asia have caused flash floods, which have badly affected life. Hundreds of houses have been washed away, roads have been damaged and thousands of people have been left homeless.

The United Nations has urged both countries to speed up relief and rescue operations in the affected areas and assured that international assistance will be provided if needed.
