Una Anti-Drug Campaign: DC Jatin Lal Urges Strict Action Against Drug Abuse

Una: The administration has taken a tough stance on the drug prevention campaign in Una district, Himachal Pradesh. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jatin Lal clarified that negligence at any level in the anti-drug campaign will not be tolerated. He directed the Panchayat-level drug prevention committees to ensure accountability.

The Deputy Commissioner made this statement while chairing a meeting of the district-level committee constituted under the N-CORD (National Narco Coordination Portal). He pointed out that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, special attention is being paid to drug eradication, including a comprehensive anti-drug campaign.

Drug prevention committees have been formed in all panchayats of the district, headed by the principals of local schools or colleges. Ten of these panchayats have been identified as sensitive from the “Chitta” perspective. Principals of the respective schools and colleges were specially invited to the meeting as chairpersons of the committees of these sensitive panchayats.

Action will be taken against absent principals: DC

However, the DC expressed strong displeasure over the absence of some principals. He termed this as irresponsible and directed the issuance of show-cause notices to the absent principals. DC Jatin Lal stated categorically that such indifference would not be acceptable in the future under any circumstances, and that action would be taken as per the rules if satisfactory answers were not received.

DC Jatin Lal directed all drug prevention committees to hold meetings at regular intervals. He stressed the need to actively involve the local community, youth, women’s groups, and social organizations in the campaign. The DC also called for constant monitoring of suspicious activities and promptly providing relevant information to the administration and police. He also directed that members who are not providing the expected cooperation be reported to the administration so that accountability can be established.

Instructions for surprise inspection of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres

Additionally, he directed surprise inspections of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers. The DC stated that strict action should be taken if any illegal activity is found. He also directed the district-level committee formed under the Mental Health Act to ensure thorough inspections of the centers in accordance with the provisions of the Act. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts by the administration, police, and health departments to ensure the success of this campaign.

Strict action under the NDPS Act

Una Superintendent of Police stated that the provisions of the NDPS Act are being strictly enforced in the district. He added that the campaign against drug abuse will be made more effective. With the coordinated cooperation of all departments, action will be intensified.

The Superintendent of Police directed regular inspections of chemist shops, checking drug stocks and records, and taking strict action against the sale of banned or illegal drugs. If any irregularities are found, legal action will be taken against those involved.
