Una Road Accident: 9 Devotees Injured After Speeding Canter Falls Into Ditch Near Pirnigaha

Una: Nine people were injured in a road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district on Wednesday night after a speeding canter lost control and fell into a ditch near Pir Nigaha. Four of the injured were later referred to PGI Chandigarh in critical condition.

Devotees were returning from the shrine

The accident occurred around 11 pm when devotees from Pehowa in Haryana had visited the religious shrine of Baba Vadbhaag Singh Madi and Pirnigaha to pay obeisance.

After offering prayers, they were returning to Gandhi Nagar in Pehowa, Kurukshetra district, in a canter.

Canter lost control at a turn

According to police, the canter (HR45B-1564) lost control due to high speed while taking a turn near Pirnigaha. The driver failed to control the vehicle, and it veered off the road and fell into a deep ditch.

The vehicle was carrying around 10–15 devotees and was being driven by Sahib Singh, son of Nishan Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra in Haryana. A total of nine people, including the driver, were injured in the accident.

Four critically injured referred to PGI

All the injured were rushed to the Regional Hospital in Una, where doctors provided first aid. Four seriously injured persons were later referred to PGI Chandigarh for further treatment.

Police register case

Sanjay, son of Raju and a resident of Kurukshetra, filed a complaint at the Sadar Una police station regarding the incident.

Police have registered a case against the canter driver under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act and started an investigation.

Una Superintendent of Police Sachin confirmed the incident and said that further action is being taken.
