Under-construction warehouse collapses in Kolkata killing 5; Over 50 feared trapped

Taratala: An under-construction godown shed collapsed in the Taratala area of West Bengal on Wednesday, triggering a rescue operation at the site. The shed of a warehouse under construction near the Taratala Transport Depot in South Kolkata collapsed suddenly at 1:30 PM on Wednesday. As per reports, Five people have died in the incident so far, and it is feared that 50 to 55 people are trapped. According to officials, four people have been rescued so far.

Locals reported that concrete pouring work was underway at the warehouse when the accident occurred. Police stated that the Kolkata Police, Disaster Management Group, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Army are engaged in the rescue operations.

Cranes have been brought in to remove the debris and iron rods, and gas cutters are being used to cut through the metal bars. The cries of trapped laborers and workers can be heard, and efforts are ongoing to rescue them as quickly as possible.
