Union Government declares four factions of JKPL as ‘Unlawful Associations’

New Delhi: In move towards supressing terrorism, Union Government has declared four factions of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) namely, JKPL (Mukhtar Ahmed Waza), JKPL (Bashir Ahmad Tota), JKPL (Ghulam Mohammad Khan) and JKPL (Aziz Sheikh) led by Yaqoob Sheikh—as ‘Unlawful Associations’.

Union Minister Amit Shah shared this information while sharing the notification of the same. Amit Shah in post on X said “These organizations were involved in inciting terror and abetting secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir. The Modi government is committed to suppressing terrorism ruthlessly”.

 Ministry of Home Affairs said that members of the abovesaid factions of JKPL have remained involved in supporting terrorist activities and anti-India propaganda for fuelling secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir. MHA also said JKPL have been involved in mobilising violent protests in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir for perpetrating unlawful activities, including sustained stonepelting on Security Forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

Noting that JKPL, by their activities show sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority and constitutional set up of the country, MHA said that if no immediate measure is taken then factions of JKPL will continue with the anti-national activities which are detrimental to the territorial integrity, security and sovereignty of the country. It further added that JKPL will continue propagating false narrative and anti-national sentiments among the people of Jammu and Kashmir with the intention to cause disaffection against India and disrupt public order.

Union Government under powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), declared four factions of JKPL as Unlawful associations with immediate effect.
