Unseasonal rains destroy crops in UP, storm and rain alert issued for 4 days

New Delhi: Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have caused massive damage to farmers’ crops in Uttar Pradesh. According to government data, 4300 hectares of crops belonging to approximately 15,000 farmers have been damaged in the last 15 days.

Of these, 244.23 hectares were damaged by hailstorms and 4053.11 hectares by heavy rains.

Yogi government alert, officials instructed to go to the field

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to immediately go to the field to assess the damage. He said that relief work should be expedited and assistance should be provided to the affected farmers as soon as possible.

So far, compensation has been provided to 10,278 farmers, and the remaining farmers will also be provided relief soon.

Warning of bad weather, thunderstorms, and hail for 4 days

According to the Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance is becoming active, which will cause the weather to deteriorate again in the state from March 30th. Rain will begin in western Uttar Pradesh and extend across the state.

Thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms are also expected in some areas. Wind speeds could reach up to 60 km per hour.

Compensation worth crores to farmers

According to the government, 286 farmers affected by hailstorms have been provided with ₹13.34 lakh in relief and 9,992 farmers affected by heavy rains have been provided with ₹4.47 crore in relief.

The assessment of the losses of the remaining affected farmers is ongoing, and they will be compensated soon.
