UP: Cannabis Worth ₹2.76 Crore arrives in Lucknow from Bangkok, five arrested

On Tuesday night, the Husainganj police arrested five accused individuals near Charbagh for allegedly smuggling organic cannabis via flight from Bangkok, Thailand. One of the arrested suspects had arrived in Lucknow from Bangkok just that Tuesday morning, bringing the cannabis with him. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth ₹2.76 crore.

ACP Hazratganj, Vikas Jaiswal, stated that this operation was carried out based on a tip-off from an informant. The accused were apprehended inside an SUV near the Bal Vidya Mandir in Charbagh. They have been identified as Priyanshu Tiwari (a resident of Basganj, Mau Khurd, Gorakhpur), Rahul Sharma (a resident of Gola Lahi Dwari, Gorakhpur), Brijesh Rathore (a resident of Gujarat), Ravikant (a resident of Kolkata), and Deepak Tyagi (a resident of Kurba Bazar, Lajunpur, Gorakhpur).

A search of their persons and vehicle yielded 2.7 kilograms of organic cannabis, 5 kilograms of regular cannabis, and eight mobile phones. They were reportedly planning to transport the consignment to Delhi.

SO Husainganj, Shivmangal Singh, revealed that one of the accused, Ravikant, resides in Bangkok. He had arrived in Lucknow by flight on May 4. While still in Bangkok, he had handed over the cannabis to his associate, Brijesh Rathore, with instructions to bring it to Lucknow.

Brijesh flew into Lucknow on May 5 and met with Rahul at the airport. The cannabis was intended to be sold in Delhi through Deepak Tyagi. The police swooped in and apprehended the group just as they were transporting the cannabis in Priyanshu’s SUV, en route to drop Deepak Tyagi off at the bus stand. The accused confessed that they would purchase the cannabis in Bangkok at a rate of ₹10 lakh per kilogram, bring it to India, and then sell it for ₹1 crore per kilogram.
