UP CM Yogi Adityanath orders strict measures to prevent bird flu outbreak

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed swift and coordinated action in response to the potential threat of H5 Avian Influenza (Bird Flu), emphasizing that the safety of protected animals and birds remains the state government’s top priority.

Enhanced Security Across Wildlife and Cow Shelters
CM Yogi instructed heightened security measures at all zoos, bird sanctuaries, national parks, wetlands, and cow shelters across Uttar Pradesh. He ordered immediate implementation of central and state guidelines to prevent any outbreak.

    Sanitisation and Health Checks Mandatory
The Chief Minister emphasized regular sanitisation of zoo premises, including blow-torching if necessary, alongside mandatory health checks for all animals and birds. Food must be served only after thorough inspection, and staff duties should be assigned based on risk levels to ensure full safety compliance.

    Training and PPE for Staff
All zoo personnel are to be trained on avian influenza symptoms, transmission, and prevention. They must also be equipped with PPE kits and safety gear to ensure personal protection while performing their duties.

    Strict Monitoring of Poultry Farms
CM Yogi directed stringent surveillance of poultry farms, along with tight control over the movement of poultry products. The Health Department was asked to study potential human impacts and submit a detailed report to prevent any transmission to people.

    Inter-Departmental Coordination Key
The Chief Minister stressed continuous coordination with the Central Zoo Authority, NCDC, Health Ministry, Fisheries and Dairy Department, and IVRI Bareilly. He emphasized timely, coordinated, and strict action supported by rapid information sharing to protect both citizens and wildlife.
