UP government hikes minimum wage after Noida violence, 300 arrested: Police

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the minimum wage for all worker categories following the unrest in Noida. These new rates will be retroactive to April 1. Police have so far arrested 300 people to control the situation.

However, police said on Tuesday that the situation has now returned to normal in the industrial area, which witnessed massive protests a day earlier.

Wages hiked for skilled and unskilled workers

The monthly income of workers has been significantly increased under the wage revision. Unskilled workers in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad will now receive Rs 13,690 per month, up from Rs 11,313 previously. The wages of semi-skilled workers have been increased from ₹12,445 to ₹15,059, while skilled workers will now receive ₹16,868, up from ₹13,940 previously.

In other municipal corporation areas, unskilled workers will receive ₹13,006, semi-skilled workers ₹14,306, and skilled workers ₹16,025. In the remaining districts, the wages have been fixed at ₹12,356 for unskilled workers, ₹13,591 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹15,224 for skilled workers.

Protests turn violent in Noida

This decision follows widespread protests by factory workers in Noida over low wages and demands for a pay hike. On Monday, protests in the Phase-2 industrial area turned violent, leading to incidents of vandalism, stone pelting, and road blockages.

This severely affected traffic on routes like the Noida Link Road and Chilla Border, causing long traffic jams for commuters.

Police claim: Situation under control, 300 arrested

Joint Police Commissioner Ravi Narayan Mishra stated that the situation is now normal and heavy police force has been deployed in sensitive areas. Flag marches and patrolling are continuing.

He said that approximately 300 arrests have been made so far and others are being identified. Police are working in coordination with industrial organizations to prevent any further unrest.
