Hail Hits Ghaziabad, Rain Batters Noida & Prayagraj; 100 Quintals Wheat Damaged

In Uttar Pradesh, two types of weather were seen on Wednesday. While the weather is clear in Western and Eastern UP with the sun shining, the weather has worsened in Bundelkhand. Clouds are present in most districts, strong winds are blowing, and there is a possibility of rain.

Earlier, late on Tuesday night, there was rain with strong winds in Ghaziabad and Noida in Western UP. Hail also fell. In Eastern UP, there was rain in Prayagraj, Ghazipur, and Mirzapur. In Ghazipur, 100 quintals of wheat stored in a warehouse got wet. Today, there is a rain alert in 45 districts. Storms may also blow at a speed of 60 km/h.

It is to be noted that the cycle of storms and rain has been continuing in the state for the past 6 days. As a result, the maximum temperature has dropped below 40°C. The Meteorological Department says that due to the western disturbance and snowfall in the mountains, the weather in UP has changed.

In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall occurred in 45 cities including Lucknow and Agra. A storm with winds of 70 kmph hit Hamirpur-Chitrakoot. Trees were uprooted in many places. In Hamirpur, a tin shed fell on a woman returning from the field, resulting in her death. Due to a wall collapsing, a car and a bike were smashed to pieces.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Barabanki at 72 mm. Siddharthnagar recorded 66 mm, Ambedkarnagar 42 mm, and Gorakhpur 41.4 mm of rainfall.

Lucknow’s meteorologist Atul Singh said-

Due to an active western disturbance over North India, clouds are forming. Moist winds coming from the Bay of Bengal and dry winds coming from the west are colliding with each other, making the atmosphere unstable. This situation is common in the month of May. For now, there will be fluctuations in the weather until May 10. …
