UP heatwave: Mercury nears 45°C, relief in 3 days

In UP, severe heat has begun in April itself. The mercury has reached near 45 degrees. Since Friday morning, there has been strong sunlight in most districts. Hot winds are blowing.

On Thursday (16 April), Banda recorded a temperature of 44.4 degrees. Last year, on 22 April, Prayagraj recorded 44.3 degrees. This means that this time, the maximum temperature has exceeded last year’s temperature six days earlier.

Not only that, but the maximum temperature was also recorded at 40 degrees or above in 16 districts. Severe heat was observed in 50 cities including Prayagraj and Varanasi. Children going to school were seen covering their mouths with cloth and carrying umbrellas.

Lucknow weather scientist Atul Singh said-

In the state, the temperature will increase by 2-3 degrees over the next three days. After that, a new western disturbance will become active. However, it is not likely to cause rain, but there will be a change in the direction of winds. Clouds may cover the sky. There may be slight relief from the heat.

Hippopotamuses are simply not coming out of the water-filled pond. The effect of the increasing heat is now clearly visible on the animals. At Gorakhpur Zoo, the hippopotamuses are not coming out of the water-filled pond and are enjoying the cool water in the heat. In Kanpur Zoo, a mud pond has been made for the rhinoceros. Sprays of water are being poured on the deer and lions.

In Varanasi, the morning temperature was recorded at 41 degrees. The wind speed was around 8 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature may remain above 40 degrees for the next 8 days.
In Meerut, for the first time this season, the temperature has risen above 40 degrees. Light clouds are present in the sky. According to meteorologists, the heat may feel slightly less today compared to yesterday.
In Gorakhpur, the sun has been strong since morning, and the heat is being felt. Today, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 38 and 40 degrees, while the minimum temperature may be around 20 to 22 degrees.

Why is it getting so hot?

According to meteorologists, currently there is no active weather system, due to which dry westerly winds are directly reaching the plains. Along with this, an anticyclone formed over Karnataka and Maharashtra is now moving towards central India. For this reason, the temperature is continuously increasing.

April 18 – The weather will remain clear across the state. Warm winds will blow. The heat will increase.
April 19 – The sky will remain clear in Eastern and Western UP. Strong winds may blow. The heat will increase due to strong sunlight.
April 20 – The weather will be dry across the state. There is no warning of rain or storm.
April 21 – There will be strong sunlight in Eastern and Western UP. The intensity of heat will increase further.
