UP Heatwave Alert: Temperature Hits 44.4°C, 40 Districts on Red Alert

New Delhi: The heat wave in Uttar Pradesh has made life miserable for people. On Friday, the Meteorological Department issued a heat wave warning in 40 districts. For the first time this season, a warm night alert has also been issued in 17 districts, meaning there will be no relief from the heat even at night.

In the last 24 hours, 30 districts in the state recorded temperatures of 40°C or more. Banda was the hottest district, with the mercury reaching 44.4°C. In Kanpur, 45-year-old Sunil Kumar died while riding a bike in the scorching sun. Family members claim heat stroke was the cause, although doctors have confirmed the cause only after the postmortem report.

Special arrangements for animals in zoos

In view of the intense heat, an elephant at the Gorakhpur Zoo is repeatedly pouring water on itself with its trunk to seek relief. Ice blocks, coolers, and sprinklers have been installed for animals at the Lucknow Zoo, while tigers in Kanpur are being given ORS solution.

Laborers’ work prohibited in the afternoon

Workers’ work has been prohibited from 12 noon to 4 pm in Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri. According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and light rain are expected for the next four days, starting April 26th, which may provide some relief to the people.
