Kaushambi: One person was killed and around 30 others were injured after a pickup truck carrying devotees to the Ganga overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Monday morning, officials said.
The accident took place on the Malaka Highway in the Kokhraj police station area when the speeding pickup lost control and overturned.
One person died at the spot, while nearly 30 devotees sustained injuries. Several of the injured are reportedly in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at the medical college.
Police Launch Rescue Operation
Soon after receiving information about the accident, Kokhraj Station House Officer Santosh Sharma reached the spot with a police team and launched rescue operations.
Police personnel evacuated the injured and shifted them to the hospital. The SHO also used his official vehicle to transport some of the injured devotees for immediate medical attention.
All the injured were subsequently admitted to the medical college, where doctors are treating them. Officials said the condition of several victims remains serious.
DM Confirms 30 Injured
District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pal said around 30 people were injured in the accident.
“As soon as we received the information, ambulances were dispatched, and the injured were immediately transported to the hospital,” he said.
Local residents and relatives of the victims appreciated the prompt response of the Kokhraj police, particularly the SHO, for helping transport the injured.
Police personnel also carried out rescue and relief operations at the accident site and ensured that the injured were shifted to the hospital without delay.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the accident.
