12 killed in UP storms; CM orders officials on alert

At least 12 people have lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh after a sudden spell of thunderstorm, heavy rain, and lightning struck several districts. The extreme weather caused widespread destruction, uprooting trees, damaging infrastructure, and disrupting normal life across multiple regions.

Districts including Kanpur, Sitapur, and nearby areas were among the worst affected, with incidents of house collapse, tree fall, and lightning strikes reported.

Mother and daughter burnt alive in tragic incident

One of the most heartbreaking incidents occurred in Sitapur district, where a lightning strike reportedly caused a house to catch fire. A mother and her daughter were burnt alive in the blaze, while another child sustained serious burn injuries.

The tragic incident highlights the deadly impact of lightning during severe weather conditions, especially in rural areas where houses are more vulnerable to such disasters.

Kanpur witnesses large-scale destruction

Kanpur experienced massive damage due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. Reports indicate that more than 200 trees and several electricity poles were uprooted, leading to power outages and traffic disruptions across the city.

In multiple areas, fallen trees blocked roads and damaged vehicles, while waterlogging added to the chaos. The storm also led to casualties, including deaths caused by falling trees and accidents during heavy rain.

Multiple causes behind fatalities

Authorities stated that deaths occurred due to a combination of reasons, including lightning strikes, collapsing structures, and falling trees. In some cases, people were caught outdoors during the storm, increasing the risk of fatal incidents.

The unpredictable nature of the storm left little time for residents to take precautionary measures, contributing to the high number of casualties.

Rainfall recorded in several districts

Apart from the destruction, rainfall was reported in at least three districts, bringing a temporary drop in temperatures. While the rain provided relief from heat, it also intensified storm conditions, including strong winds and hail in certain areas.

Weather experts attribute the sudden change to an active western disturbance influencing northern India, leading to unstable atmospheric conditions.

CM Yogi Adityanath issues alert

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken serious note of the situation and directed officials to remain on high alert. He has instructed district administrations to carry out relief and rescue operations promptly and ensure proper medical care for the injured.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of weather conditions and timely dissemination of alerts to prevent further loss of life.

Authorities begin relief and rescue efforts

Local administrations and disaster response teams have been deployed in affected areas to clear debris, restore power supply, and assist victims. Efforts are underway to assess the damage and provide compensation to families of the deceased.

Officials have also advised residents to stay indoors during adverse weather and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during storms.
